(November 15, 2006) usmpride.com News DEVELOPING STORY HATTIESBURG --- "Investigators at usmpride.com News are piecing together some of the details surrounding the departure of former assistant professor of finance Larry Eisenberg. Sources tell usmpride.com News that George Carter recommended that a terminal contract be given to Eisenberg for the 2006-07 academic year. Before the year began, Eisenberg departed the CoB, reportedly sending Carter a brief note with few details (other than he would not return)...".  See also, What does Carter Think?"
(November 15, 2006) What Happens when Administrators Sour? "On Tuesday, 7 November 2006, the EFIB met to discuss putting FIN 380 online for spring 2007 semester only. At the close of that meeting, wherein some other curriculum issues were discussed, EFIB Chairman George Carter e-mailed the following “meeting minutes” (which he kept) to the department’s faculty: ...".

(November 16, 2006) 31st & Pearl, part 41, System Failure "Now we have it.  A CoB administrator, in his own words, condemns the CoB’s annual evaluation system.  You see stuff that’s not appropriate . . . there’s a certain injustice to it . . . it leaves little differentiation, if any.  We now know what we always knew - the system is a failure.  This spring, when Doty stands before the faculty and talks about how much integrity there is in the system, Professor Lindley won’t have to say a word.  Everyone will look at each other, and know."  See, What Does George Carter Think?

(November 21, 2006) 31st & Pearl, part 42 Bludgeoned "The whole concept of tenure serving as a club over someone’s head, to use EFIB Chair George Carter’s description, is nothing new among Tier IV colleges and universities.  That stated, the CoB’s case is interesting, given recent events. Former Management/ Marketing Chair Alvin Williams, current Management and Marketing Chair Barry Babin, and CoB Dean Harold Doty seem to be writing all sorts of new procedures and rules to get management and marketing faculty tenured and promoted.  From 4th year reviews to so-called “letters of agreement,” if anything is being held over the heads of faculty in this department it’s little more than a feather.   The EFIB is another case.  Carter’s club was recently used to put an untenured finance professor into an 'awkward situation professionally,'...".

He lays out the situation in the CoB - the favoritism, the ex post rule-making, etc., as good as can be done. What’s interesting is the response from Carter, the CoB’s Ethicist-in-Residence. (December 8, 2006) George Carter on Information and Happiness Revisiting the Carter-King E-mail Exchange Regarding Summer 2006 Teaching Loads in EFIB "Investigators at USMPRIDE.COM have put together more of the e-mail exchange between EFIB Chair George Carter and associate professor of finance Ernest King about Carter’s use of selective course reductions in summer 2006 teaching loads. We have received word that one USMPRIDE.COM reader remarked, after reading the first report on this matter that was posted to this website, that Carter sounds more like a cult leader than an academic department chair. That may be as good a way of putting as any. This report offers more Carterology, though perhaps of a different sort...".  For the email exchange see 31st & Pearl, part 43; The CoB’s 2006 Summer Teaching Deals Explained; and Pay for Play:  2006 Summer Salary Shenanigans
