(October 15, 2007) Breaking News CoB's AACSB Report Due Today HATTIESBURG – The arrival of 15-Oct-07 means that the CoB's AACSB Peer Review Team has the CoB's 2008 Maintenance of Accreditation Report in its hands. As long-time readers of USMNEWS.NET will recall, the CoB's original 5-Year Maintenance of Accreditation Report failed to pass the 2007 PRT's inspection, and the AACSB required the CoB to go through a so-called "6th Year Review" process. The report for that process had to be filed with AACSB by 15-Oct-07. The CoB's PRT visit will occur some time around February of 2008.
(November 6, 2007) Breaking News Problem Solved? HATTIESBURG – After the CoB’s AACSB Peer Review Team departed from Greene Hall in early February of 2007, CoB faculty waited and waited and waited for official word on the PRT’s thoughts about the CoB’s Maintenance of Accreditation efforts. After weeks and weeks, none came.
(November 12, 2007) 31st & Pearl Does AACSB Grade on the Curve? Given the way things are going in the CoB these days, one has to hope that officials at the AACSB grade on the curve. All indications are that they do, especially considering the CoB's treatment after February of 2007. Although the CoB was handed what is being called a "6th Year Review" or "AACSB Probation," things could have been much worse. There were some who thought the CoB's case called for rescinding the CoB's accreditation status outright.
(November 13, 2007) All Bets are Off Now by Duane Cobb Just six hours after a 31st & Pearl columnist at USMNEWS.NET predicted that the CoB would pass its AACSB "make-up" test in the spring of 2008, Interim CoB Dean Alvin Williams surprised many in the Southern Miss community with an e-mail message announcing his plans to retire from USM in June of 2008.
(December 15, 2007) Breaking News CoB's AACSB Probation Lifted HATTIESBURG – As the headline ticker at USMNEWS.NET reported on 14-Dec-07, the CoB's AACSB probation has been lifted. Interim CoB Dean Alvin Williams informed CoB faculty and staff of this news via e-mail, and he thanked CoB faculty and staff for "varied contributions to achieving this important milesone."
(December 15, 2007) Special Report Aspiring to Worse? An Investigative Report on the CoB's AACSB Accreditation The 14-Dec-07 announcement -- that the CoB's AACSB probation had been lifted -- came as a surprise to many CoB faculty. Not only did the conclusion come down from AACSB headquarters in less than 12 months since its decision to assign the CoB a 6th Year Review, it also came from an organization that chose to forgo an actual visit to Greene Hall, the home of USM's College of Business. More than one source has since told USMNEWS.NET that the AACSB's most recent finding is also perplexing simply because the CoB is demonstrably worse, as an organization, today (14-Dec-07) than it was at the time the CoB's AACSB Peer Review Team visited in February of 2007
