(June 29, 2010) Gordon C. Cannon – University Ombudsman Drs. Posey, Williams, and Cannon admitted they did
not have a shred of evidence for their assumption that Professor DePree placed flyers on the chairs of classroom
seats. And they testified under oath to that lack of evidence. But their knowledge that no evidence existed did not
stop them from continuing their unfounded accusations. To them placing flyers in classroom seats is a terrible crime
and someone has to be punished for (what they consider) this unforgiveable crime. Dr. DePree had never seen the
flyer and testified to that under oath. By the way, what did the flyer say? Was it a rallying cry for treason? Actually,
the flyer said that there was a double standard in the CoB with regard to plagiarism. The dean and faculty were not
subject to ethical standards of plagiarism but students would be punished for plagiarizing.
(June 30, 2010) Gordon C. Cannon – University Ombudsman Gordon Cannon was reluctant to make this admission.
It took the cross-examining attorney a while to extract an answer. Why was he so reluctant to provide this
information? Was he embarrassed about how ineptly he had conducted an investigation as an ombudsman who was
charged with recommending whether a tenured full professor should be fired? If your career is on the line, will Dr.
Cannon or someone like him, find it too much trouble to contact witnesses who are unlikely to support the
conclusion the ombudsman wants to reach? Dr. Cannon claims to be a scientist. Surely, he understands that a
scientist should consider all available information – not just that which confirms his biases.
(July 2, 2010) Gordon C. Cannon – University Ombudsman As Dr. Cannon said when questioned about his reliance
on false statements intended to procure termination of a tenured professor “I don't know that it would trouble me too
much.” (See part 11.) What should trouble all of us is that any faculty member may have the misfortune to be the
subject of an ombudsman's investigation. Any of us may be subject to termination proceedings based on his findings
– all without a shred of evidence. And don't think it can't happen to you.
(June 28, 2010) lastweek w/ usmnews.net 28-June-2010 – Transcript Moderator: USM professor Gordon Cannon has
been a prominent feature over the past few days here at USMNEWS.net. What do you make of this situation? 31st &
Pearl The whole Cannon ombudsman theater is another black eye for USM and the [Martha] Saunders Columnist:
administration. Some of his testimony is incredible. Not doing any investigation is sort of the way things seem to be
done at USM. It’s reminiscent of the past coverage of faculty grievances on this website.
