(July 16, 2007) 31st & Pearl Fait Accompli Governance The term "fait accompli" may contain most of the letters needed to spell "faculty," but the terms "faculty governance" and "fait accompli governance" couldn't be further apart. This distinction is an important one because USM's College of Business is rapidly moving to the fait accompli governance end of the spectrum. Whether it's the consolidation of faculty, or worse yet -- the termination of faculty -- the CoB's move to a governance-by- irreversible deeds model is picking up speed with each passing day.

(July 20, 2007) Breaking News EFIB Hires Ranck as Associate Director of the BBER Gautier – In a move that sources say will come as another surprise to EFIB (and CoB) faculty, EFIB Chairman George Carter has hired Dr. Edward Ranck as the Associate Director of the Bureau of Business and Economic Research. (July 21, 2007) Sins of Omission What George Carter Failed to Tell EFIB Faculty about J. Corey Miller On 20-July-2007, USMNEWS.NET released a Breaking News story regarding the EFIB’s search for a new Director of its Center for Economics Education. That story presented a troubling e-mail from EFIB Chairman George Carter to EFIB faculty, stating that a national search for the Directorship generated just two (2) applications – one from Corey Miller of Mississippi State University and the other from Susan Doty, wife of former CoB Dean D. Harold Doty, and currently serving as the CEE’s lead economics education provider (to K-12 teachers in Mississippi). That news story indicated how Carter had presented Doty’s case for the Directorship in the best possible light, while at the same time downgrading Miller’s qualifications for the post. Carter also indicated in the same e-mail that the CEE search committee, consisting of Carter, William Gunther, and Akbar Marvasti, favored Doty’s candidacy over that of Miller.
