(January 6, 2009) A 31st & Pearl Special Series The Duhon Standard A Look at How the CoB is Governed by
Exceptions, not Rules It was only a few short years ago that then-associate professor of management, David Duhon,
approached then-MGT & MKT chairman, Alvin Williams, and then-CBED/CoB dean, Harold Doty, to request
detailed information on what it would take for Duhon to receive their support for his promotion-to-full application.
Duhon had submitted at least one application during the William Gunther administration (1998-2003) that wasn't
well-received. His research record was weak, to say the least, and this time Duhon wanted firm guidance. Instead of
presenting Duhon with a crisp, clean copy of Enhancing Faculty Productivity (the CoB's faculty handbook) and
instructing him to reacquaint himself with it, as they should have done, Williams and Doty took it upon themselves to
draw up a plan wherein Duhon was to publish a handful of additional journal articles, one of which was already
accounted for by a "forthcoming" pedagogical paper on Duhon's record at that time.

CURRENT DEAN, UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT TYLER
(January 12, 2009) GH Chatter How do all of the CoB's (permanent) deans compare against one-another? A recent
chatter held the following ranking: (1) Ty Black, (2) Lance Nail, (3) Bill Gunther, (4) Joe Greene, and (5) Harold Doty.
It's interesting that Nail would already rank second to some. It's no surprise, however, that Harold Doty brings up the
rear.
(January 26, 2009) GH Chatter A number of recent USMNEWS.net reports have discussed the fact that Susan Doty,
the wife of former CoB dean Harold Doty, was hired as an economics instructor by the CoB during the latter Doty’s
reign as dean (2003-07). Some recent chatter now has it that the former dean perhaps regrets having his spouse
around JAG Hall so much these days. If so, this is just another interesting twist and turn in the bizarre daily saga
that is USM’s b-school.
(January 26, 2009) BREAKING NEWS Can Doty Finally Make It Happen? HATTIESBURG – Information is
streaming into USMNEWS.net offices indicating that former CoB dean, and current CoB professor of management,
D. Harold Doty is moving steadily through the process of becoming the new dean of the Sheldon B. Lubar School of
Business at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee.
(January 29, 2009) CoB News, 29 January 2009 Integrity Policy Not Boilerplate, Says The Chronicle According to
USMNEWS.net sources, Thomas Bartlett’s 29-Jan-09 article in The Chronicle of Higher Education entitled “2
Universities’ Plagiarism Policies Look a Lot Alike” only deteriorates even further the arguments made by the Harold
Doty/Farhang Niroomand administration of the CoB (2003-07), that a university’s or college’s academic integrity
policy (or, for that matter, AACSB documentation) is simply “boilerplate” and open for use by any and all, even
“without proper citation.” In his article (shown below), Bartlett describes how officials at Southern Illinois University
adopted in 2007 a 139-word plagiarism definition that is nearly identical the definition adopted by Indiana
University just two years earlier.
