D. HAROLD DOTY, FORMER DEAN, COLLEGE OF BUSINESS,
CURRENT DEAN, UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT TYLER
(January 15, 2010) 31st & Pearl Dean Doty = Dr. Chaos Anyone familiar with the D. Harold Doty administration of
USM’s b-school from 2003-07 probably believes that his presence as dean at the University of Texas at Tyler is
creating a little chaos (probably more) at that school. Now knowing, as we do, that former CoB management professor
Stephen Bushardt is headed to UTT to be Doty’s righthand means that Doty is about to unleash much more than a
little chaos on his newest subjects.
(April 11, 2010) Looking for a New Dean So many college and university visitors who come to usmnews.net are
looking for information about D. Harold Doty, a past-Dean of the College of Business at USM, that we have a difficult
time believing he's applying to so many schools and so soon after moving to Tyler, Texas. However, from time to time
we have enough information to make a cross-check. (As we know, barely a year after he arrived in Hattiesburg, he
was hunting for a new dean’s job.) Here are the results of a recent "click" on usmnews.net looking for Doty:
(April 12, 2010) GH Chatter The word that former CoB dean Harold Doty, currently the dean of business at the
University of Texas at Tyler, may be looking for a job at Central Michigan University or somewhere else has a number
of people amused. Long-time readers of USMNEWS.net will recall that Doty was on the job trail shortly after arriving in
Hattiesburg in July-03. In fact, the video of Doty on the front page of the website was made during a Sept-05 interview
with the University of South Florida. Needless to say, Doty bombed that visit (“. . . the fun money is . . .”), as he did
others between 2003 and now. Some CoBers are now wondering if another former CoB management professor,
Stephen Bushardt, is being kept abreast by Doty about these recent job searches. Bushardt, currently a management
professor at Spring Hill College, is headed to chair Doty’s management unit at UTT after the 2009-10 academic year.
The 2009-10 academic year has been a tumultuous one for Bushardt, who had a restraining order (claiming spousal
abuse) placed on him by his wife, a Hattiesburg-based physician.
