(November 20, 2009) The Mythical “Center” Devolves Again The Center for Financial Services, raised by Michael
Melton, ignored and then trashed by the team of John Clark and Harold Doty, has now been made of less
importance once again. Now under Dean Nail and Skip Hughes, Director of Accounting, it (the room jokingly
referred to for years as “the Center”) is now a place for Finance and Accounting students. It is generally supposed
that this was done to placate Skip (who apparently needs a lot of that) and to try in any way possible to make the
room look used.
(November 24, 2009) CoB Shocking News of the Week Three economists were seen inside the College of Business
this week (of 11/16/2009)at the same time. As shocking as this news is, usmnews.net will try to monitor this
situation and issue updates as warranted. Right now there does not seem to be any reason to panic.
(January 6, 2010) 0001331 A GUEST EDITORIAL ON BOOZE ACCOUNTS AND SUCH The title of this editorial is
the actual job posting number for the "W.P. Bridges Professor of Real Estate" position in the USM b-school. This
opening was first advertised on the USM employment pages on 18-Nov-09, just a few weeks ago. As it appears,
USM will have a Parham Bridges Distinguished Professor of Real Estate on board for the 2010-11 academic year.
This has been a long time coming.

requests for the public universities it governs. As the data show, not a single CoBer will be taking a sabbatical
during the 2010-11 academic year. Those USM faculty whose applications were approved are listed below:
(March 24, 2010) GH Chatter There is a bit of chatter these days about the latest issue of the CoB’s magazine,
Venture. It seems the spring of 2010 issue is dominated by stories on the new CoB Honors House. The only other
thing sprinkled amongst these reports is a puff piece on new accounting director Skip Hughes. How much does
this mag cost?
(March 29, 2010) CoB to Get New Building The Mississippi legislature recently approved a $13 million construction
plan for a new College of Business facility at USM. This gives Lance Nail a major accomplishment, although
sources say the push for a new building began during the William Gunther administration (1998-2003) of the CBA.
Gunther worked to secure millions from Gene Carlisle and other private sector CoB supporters, and Gunther’s
plan called for a $25 million facility (almost 10 years ago). Recent news reports about the $13 million construction
plan did not disclose details of any private support.
