(April 21, 2010) Retirees What will the economist retirees do once they depart in June? Here are some thoughts: Mark Klinedinst – the odds are he will not be going anywhere except across the street to the College of Arts & Letters. It is a shame that all his publicity of the past several months has been about whining, complaining, and seeking “fairness” he never wanted to bestow. He will seem less liberal across the street, but no more productive. Does Martha really want a permanent malcontent?

(April 22, 2010) Elimination without Representation How Dereliction of Duty Meant that Klinedinst’s Crusade of 2009-10 was too Little, too Late For months the campus at the University of Southern Mississippi has been bogged down in the politics of budget-cutting. For the CoB’s economics degrees and faculty, those politics struck hard and fast during the weeks of July and August of 2009, resulting in the elimination of both the degree programs and faculty.
(April 23 2010) CoB News 23 April 2010 “Damage Done” – by 31st & Pearl Columnist ¯ The recent USMNEWS.net editorial entitled Some Say Klinedinst Now Worsening Budget Crisis for USM Faculty and Staff provides details about what some are calling “the Klinedinst Crusade of 2009-10.” That column also suggests that aspects of this crusade, such as advising USM to consider dropping down a division in intercollegiate athletics, are making matters worse for other USM faculty and staff.
(April 26, 2010) Saved by Departures Two Retiring ECO Faculty may Remain at USM After 2009-10 Klinedinst’s Portait
There is no apparent reason for Kemp’s use of a file photo of CoB economics professor Mark Klinedinst, at least for this report. That file photo, which appears to be a new one, is inserted below.
(May 4, 2010) Is it Too Late to Rescind Klinedinst’s Tenure and Promotions? Error in Reports of ECO Professor’s Publications Trail Reveals Further Weakness Numerous reports here at USMNEWS.net have reflected on the shaky journal publications record of retiring economics professor Mark Klinedinst. Most of these have relied on tables to make various arguments against USM’s preferential treatment of Klinedinst at various points in his USM career. One of those table reproductions appeared again recently, with USMNEWS.net’s publication of “Too Big to Fire?” That particular report was part of the series examining the research credentials of the departing CoB economists. That table is inserted below:
(June 30, 2010) 31st & Pearl Standing Alone The new fiscal year is here, meaning that we have turned the calendar to 1-July-2010. This date also marks another turning point for USM’s CoB – the economists have departed. Associate professor Daniel Monchuk and professor Akbar Marvasti are now part of USM’s College of Arts & Letters. Joining them, at least for a while, is former CoB associate professor of economics Trellis Green. The other senior economics professors, George Carter, William Gunther, Mark Klinedinst, and Edward Nissan, have moved into retirement. Whether this is what they wanted is another question.
