(October 19, 2009) WHERE DOTY FAILED A New Look at the CoB’s Move of IB to MGT The Lance Nail administration’s recent
move of international business (IB) to management (MGT) marked the end of an age-old battle to have IB housed in the more
appropriate confines of the general business curriculum. For years the CoB’s economists used their affiliation with IB, and its
dozens of student majors, to support their bloated existence in USM’s b-school. However, as part of Nail’s fall 2008 reorganization
of USM’s CoB, IB and its faculty are now affiliated with business management, and under the direction of David Duhon (not EFIB
chairman George Carter).
ARTICLES CONCERNING
JOHN LAMBERT, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS
(April 7, 2010) GH Chatter Chatter is popping up about the CoB letting IB assistant professor John Lambert go. Lambert was
supported by the prior Harold Doty administration, including former EFIB chair George Carter. His MBA from the University of
Phoenix has since been a source of embarrassment for some CoBers. When added to some of the quirky things he does, it’s easy to
see why the Lance Nail administration of the CoB would not be fond of having Lambert represent the face of IB in the b-school.
(May 11, 2010) CoB News 11 May, 2010 Lambert Loves CoB IB Program-USM public relations official Van Arnold penned an
interesting 10-May-2010 press release about assistant professor of IB, John Lambert, and the CoB’s IB program. In it Lambert
provides the two reasons why the CoB’s international business program is successful. Neither includes anything former CoB
associate dean Farhang Niroomand ever did, nor do they applaud the economics group for managing the major in past years.
Apparently, separating IB from economics is the unsaid third reason why IB now works for the betterment of CoB students.
(June 8, 2010) The Lambert Files More News on the CoB’s Sole IB Faculty John Lambert The recent USMNEWS.net report on
CoB associate professor Cherylynn Becker’s assignment to teach a summer 2010 section of MGT 640 for CoB-GC received a lot
of attention. Since then USMNEWS.net readers informed reporters that a similar case, wherein CoB assistant professor of
international business John Lambert is teaching a summer 2010 section of IB 692 for CoB-GC, is worthy of readers’ attention.
(June 10, 2010) GH Chatter The recent report on assistant professor John Lambert is generating some talk. The report mentions
that Lambert’s future tenure vote may be shaky. Chatter, however, indicates that he may not be with the CoB that long.
Apparently Lambert is shopping his vitae around, and may land a position elsewhere before coming up for a tenure vote at
USM. Long-time USMNEWS.net readers are aware that the CoB has been hemorrhaging faculty since 2003, the year that
Harold Doty became dean. Any potential loss regarding Lambert is simply part of that situation.
