(April 14, 2007) Everywhere BUT the CoB’s Webpage More than 100 hours have passed since USM Provost Jay Grimes
informed the CoB that Dean D. Harold Doty and Associate Dean Farhang Niroomand are no longer Dean and Associate
Dean, respectively. While Grimes carried the news across the USM community, usmnews.net and The Hattiesburg
American made sure it (the news) went global. After 100 hours, it seems the news has reached every corner, except one.
Somehow the CoB’s webpage (inside www.usm.edu) seems to believe that D. Harold Doty is still the Dean and that
Farhang Niroomand is still the Associate Dean.
(April 24, 2007) 31st & Pearl Words to Remember David Halberstam, Pulitzer Prize-winning author, died recently in an
automobile accident. Halberstam, 73, was famous for covering the Vietnam War and sports, topics that captivated the
American consciousness for very different reasons. In a recent speech, Halberstam stated,

weeks. This May 2007 update will touch on a few of these.
(May 31, 2007) Breaking News More Faculty Leaving the CoB HATTIESBURG – Reporters at USMNEWS.NET have
learned that finance instructor Michael Madaris will be leaving the College of Business after summer of 2007. Word
began to spread about Madaris’ departure earlier this week, though no details were available at that time.
USMNEWS.NET has since learned that Madaris is departing for William Carey University, where he will begin this fall
(2007) as an assistant professor finance in WCU’s School of Business.
