(August 20, 2010) Morgan Reassigned; Willis gets Big Raise "In a move approved by the Mississippi IHL Board on 19-Aug-2010, outgoing USM chief financial officer, Joe Morgan, has been reassigned, effective 1-Sept-2010, by the Martha Saunders administration. In just a few days Morgan will become the new associate director for internal operations in the alumni affairs office at USM. Despite the significant demotion, the Saunders administration allowed Morgan, pictured below, to retain his CFO salary...". On top of this, relatively new CoB finance chair Francis Laatsch is reportedly being paid $139,920. That's right at $285,000 for just two CoB chairs. With Hughes' $200,000 added in, three of the CoB's five chairs are banking about $485,000 in salary alone...".

According to Libby Sander’s 30-Sept-2010 news story for The Chronicle of Higher Education, 406 MSU faculty members each recently received a bonus of $2,500 (406 x $2,500 = $1.015 million) that was made possible by a $2 million fund consisting of $0.75 million from the institution’s athletics department and $1.25 million from private supporters...".

The debate centers on the financing for the project, which cost USM $104,800. According to Kemp’s report, USM’s information technology auxiliary - iTech - funded the board; iTech head Homer Coffman said the video display board, located on the corner of Hardy Street and U.S. Hwy 49, needed to be upgraded from its previously idle state...".

In the plan, 406 MSU professors each received a bonus of $2,500, leaving roughly half of the $2 million pot for student scholarships...".
