(February 23, 2007) The CoB's Long Nightmare will Continue, At Least that's what the Silence on AACSB Says to Us "It's been about 2 and 1/2 weeks since the AACSB Peer Review Team left Hattiesburg, and there still is no official word from the CoB Dean's office about what they concluded/found. Of course, we do have the stories put out by Management/Marketing Chair Barry Babin and EFIB Chair George Carter suggesting that the Team found enough problems to warrant a 6th year/Continuing Review. That means a small cadre of AACSB representatives will be visiting the CoB, this time around February of 2008...".
(February 26, 2007) A Plagiarized Policy on Plagiarism? by Duane Cobb "The recent revelation that the CoB's Academic Integrity Policy was copied, the better part of word-for-word, from Syracuse University's Whitman School of Management is barely a surprise to many in the CoB. Since the beginning of 2006-07, USM's College of Business has been in a state of turmoil resulting from a number of ethics-challenged decisions made by the CoB's administration. Now, the recent prediction on this website -- that we may be on the eve of a national AACSB scandal -- appears to be coming to fruition.
(February 26, 2007) Is there any of us left there anywhere? A document as critical as the report to AACSB for re-accreditation had parts plagiarized from another school. All we know by way of explanation or defense are plaintive cries that “everyone does it” so it is “no problem”. Now we have the ultra-ironic and deeply sad next situation of the CoB’s Integrity Policy being lifted from former Doty employer, Syracuse. I guess everyone does that too.
(March 1, 2007) An Open Letter to Dean Doty "Dear Dean Doty, If you have something to say about usmpride.com and/or me, why don't you say it in writing to our readers? I believe the written word is more carefully considered and usually better reasoned than two people standing in the hallway calling each other “idiots”. (If you had any sense of humor we should have been laughing together over calling each other idiots, like a couple of kids. Of course, you called me an idiot first.)...".
(March 1, 2007) What was That? A Look at the "Crash of 2007" Doesn't Dean Doty Understand Defined Benefit Plans? "... As you can see from the e-mail above, Doty displayed his clumsy sense of humor in reference to the stock market (Dow Jones) decline (416.02 points; 3.3%) of 27-Feb-07. Aside from the sorry attempt at humor, what is interesting about the e-mail from Doty above is that, aside from forwarding a few administrative notes to CoB faculty, there has been no word from Doty to CoB faculty, on any subject, since the AACSB Peer Review Team left Hattiesburg over three weeks ago. So, his first communication with CoB faculty is the hideous mess you have before you (i.e., the e-mail above) in this report...".
(March 8, 2007) The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight "Another week, another incident. That’s how many observers describe CoB dean Harold Doty’s administration. In a recent usmpride.com editorial, Marc DePree stated that “In this regard [providing ample opportunities to point out administrative abuses and blundering], I’ll miss you [Doty] when you [Doty] go.” That’s an apt a statement as has been made on this website since its inception...".
(March 9, 2007) Two Boondoggles are Better than One by Duane Cobb "I was recently informed by usmpride.com News that the CoB's Center for Financial Services is now working to help CoB Dean Harold Doty's spouse, Susan, in her campaign to provide economic education instruction to Mississippi educators. This new plan calls for a financial literacy effort, supported by the CFS and its Director John Clark, that would reach students and/or educators throughout South Mississippi. As a result, two of the CoB's centers -- the CFS and the Bureau of Business and Economic Research (BBER) -- would be fully engaged in Susan Doty's education initiative..." (February 9, 2007) The Susan Doty Camouflage Plan Hits a Snag, An Investigative Series on the use of the CoB's Budget "Our investigators continue to examine details and events surrounding two of the CoB's centers --- the Center for Economics Education and the Bureau of Business and Economic Research. Both of these centers are housed in Joseph Greene Hall, though neither visibly retains any staff support. Some of our documents discuss what appears to be CoB Dean Harold Doty's desire to mask his spouse's, Susan Doty's, professional ties to the CoB through the hiring of a CEE Director. A recent installment in the Special Report series entitled "What will Susan Doty's Camouflage . .?" covered the beginning of the CoB's search process for the new Director of the CEE. New information obtained by usmpride.com researchers suggests that process appears to be unraveling...".
(February 5, 2007) How Much Longer will Dean Doty Remain at the Helm of the CoB? An Investigative Series on 2006-07 USM Presidential Transition "In her 1 February 2007 article in The Hattiesburg American entitled "Faculty surprised by dean's resignation," HA Staff Writer Rachel Leifer states that the ". . . resignation of a top University of Southern Mississippi official last week is drawing criticism from some faculty inside the College of Education and Psychology and beyond." Leifer is writing about the 26 January 2007 resignation of Willie Pierce, Dean of USM's College of Education & Psychology. Pierce's "surprising" resignation came about one week after the death of USM's College of Arts & Letters Dean, Elliott Pood.
(February 1, 2007) What will Suan Doty's Camouflage Cost the CoB? "Our investigators continue to examine details and events surrounding two of the CoB's centers --- The Center for Economics Education and the Bureau of Business and Economic Research. Readers will recall that both of these centers are housed in Joseph Greene Hall, though neither visibly retains any staff support. A number of other reports available here at usmpride.com indicate that William Gunther, the BBER's current Director, treats the BBER more like an entitlement than a privilege. A number of documents available here discuss what appears to be CoB Dean Harold Doty's desire to mask his spouse's, Susan Doty's, professional ties to the CoB through the hiring of a CEE Director. Through her position with the MCEE, Susan Doty reportedly currently serves as the CEE's lead economics educator. What her "official status" will be after a new CEE Director is hired remains unclear...".
(February 1, 2007) Dean Harold Doty's New Centralized Hiring Process Part II "This is part II in a two-part series that examines Dean Harold Doty's new centralized process for making faculty hires in USM's College of Business. Part II delves into the hiring process for a new Assistant Professor of Economics and Director of the CoB's new Center for Economics Education.)...".
