(April 30, 2008) Special Report Sleepy Hollow – More on AJW & AACSB An Investigative Series on CoB Faculty
Research Credentials As USMNEWS.NET reporters and correspondents continue to sift through the pile of new
documentation from USM (received via a Freedom of Information Act request) regarding the CoB’s 2007-08 6th Year
Revew by AACSB, new reports will continue to arrive on the pages of the website. This report looks at a portion of
Interim Dean Alvin J. Williams’ response to AACSB regarding “Standard 10 – Faculty Qualifications.” The CoB’s
support in the development of junior faculties’ research agenda was found by the AACSB Peer Review Team in 2007
to be woefully inadequate.
(May 16, 2008) Home Sweet Home for CoB Dean's Seat How Lance Nail's Addition to the CoB Alters the FIN Research
Portfolio Long-time EFIBers George Carter (chair), Farhang Niroomand (former associate dean), William Gunther
(former dean), and Mark Klinedinst (former chair) are undoubtedly elated at the idea that the top spot in the CoB is
headed "home" to the EFIB with USM President Martha Saunders' decision to hire Lance Nail as the CoB's fifth
permanent dean. Nail, who comes to USM on 1-July-08 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, is an associate
professor of finance at UAB. Thus, Saunders' decision to have Nail succeed former CoB dean Harold Doty (from
management) has most EFIB faculty shouting (figuratively) for joy.
(May 19, 2008) CoB News, 19 May 2008 Nail "In-House" According to Jana Bryant's 16-May-08 presser announcing
USM's hiring of Lance Nail as the CoB's choice to succeed Harold Doty as the College's fifth permanent dean, Nail is
currently the managing editor of the International Review of Financial Analysis. This fact mean that the CoB will be
gaining a new in-house journal, and one that FIN faculty such as John Clark and Matthew Hood may want to take
advantage of.
(May 12, 2008) Carrying HoDo How Harold Doty "St[ood] on the Shoulders of Giants" The recently released 2008
Google Scholar cites report shows that former CoB Dean and current CoB management professor, Duane Harold
Doty, sits atop the current CoB with 1,595 GS cites. Many of those CoB faculty who have pondered this result are
somewhat at a loss for words because they've never seen Doty display any behaviors while at USM (since summer of
2003) that bear any resemblance to academic research.
(May 14, 2008) Carrying HoDo How Harold Doty "St[ood] on the Shoulders of Giants" Googleocity: Solo-Authored
Successes and FailuresAs Part 1 in this series indicated, Doty's research career has seriously benefited from
associations with William Glick and George Huber. Now we know that these two management scholars have not only
been more successful than Doty in their collaborations with others, they have also been much more successful than
Doty in their solo endeavors. Table 1 below indicates just how successful these scholars have been in this regard, and
how far the CoB's Doty lags behind them.
