(January 11, 2010) Gevrek on the Island Once again reports prove accurate as the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi
website confirms that former CoB economist Deniz Gevrek is now an economics faculty at the Texas-based
institution. Gevrek, in a surprise move, departed the CoB over the Christmas break (2009-10). That move makes her
the first of six (6) economists to depart the CoB some time during 2009-10. The other five are set to retire on or before

(March 24, 2010) GH Chatter Who will be left in ECO when that unit makes its grand debut in Arts & Letters? Deniz
Gevrek left the CoB (surprisingly) in January of 2010. This week came the announcement that Sami Dakhlia will
depart USM after this year. Newer chatter has it that Akbar Marvasti is now out on the job-hunt circuit as well. This
could leave only Daniel Monchuk, who was only recently making his residence in China.

There is little argument with the notion that the College of Business at USM has been severely diminished by the
faculty flight that has occurred since former CoB dean, Harold Doty, assumed the reins of management. Doty's tenure
began in 2003, when he was hired by former USM President, Shelby Thames, to lead the newly reorganized College
of Business & Economic Development. It ended in April of 2007, just after the CoB had received an ominous report
from the AACSB requiring a 6th Year Maintenance of Accreditation Review, when Doty and his associate dean,
Farhang Niroomand, "resigned" amidst suspicion and speculation.
(April 22, 2010) The Climb A Look at the Current Homes and Past Moves of Departed CoBers, 2003-2009 A number of
reports here at USMNEWS.net have examined the astronomical faculty turnover numbers that have occurred with
regard to the CoB since 2003, the year that former CoB dean Harold Doty took the reins of the organization. The time
of Doty (2003-07), who is now b-school dean at the University of Texas – Tyler, was disastrous, as a world of space
here at USMNEWS.net attests. This report looks at the top institutions, using the U.S. News & World Report 2010
rankings, employing former CoBers of the 2003-present period.
