Reports for September 5 - 9, 2011
Over the past several years, usmnews.net has published literally thousands of reports from current and former faculty who
share my belief that USM has ineffectively and inefficiently employed far too much of its resources, both in terms of
money and people. The purpose of usmnews.net is not to provide a public relations view. That is amply supplied by The
University of Southern Mississippi's public relations department.
Based on recommendations from usmnews.net's readers, we are relaunching usmnews.net. Your comments, criticisms,
recommendations and news are greatly appreciated. Also, as we troubleshoot links, please let us know if you find any
broken or missing links.

Ego Busting A Guest Column by Victoria Tyler The recent
letter to the editor regarding CoB accountant Michael
Dugan’s ego is as enlightening as it is humorous. At the
top of Dugan’s publication list at usm.edu, at least as of
6-Sept-2011, are a couple of 2009 publications in the
Journal of Applied Business Research and the Academy
of Accounting and Financial Studies Journal. Why would
such low-level hits require ego stroking?

Dear usmnews.net, As the school year starts, I have once
again been told (through the CoB grapevine) that the
"Academic Integrity Policy" is only boilerplate; therefore,
no citation is needed. It is my understanding that the
Academic Integrity Policy was copied almost verbatim
without citation to Syracuse University's Whitman School
of Management's Academic Integrity Policy. It doesn't
seem right to me.
