ALVIN WILLIAMS, FORMER PROFESSOR OF
MANAGEMENT AND INTERIM DEAN
(May 2, 2008) CoB News, 2 May 2008 Thursday with Alvin USM President, Martha Saunders, has invited the USM
family to a reception honoring the retirement of Interim CoB Dean, Alvin Williams. That reception will be held on
Thursday, 8-May-08, from 4:00–5:30 p.m. in the courtyard of the Powerhouse Restaurant on USM’s campus. Williams
is a professor of marketing and the Kaetsu Distinguished Professor of International Business at USM, and he served
as chair of the Department of Management and Marketing in recent years.
(May 12, 2008 ) GH Chatter The new $100,000 endowment for the Alvin J. Williams Professorship in Minority
Entrepreneurship was a surprise to many CoBers. Some are predicting that (1) the professorship will be filled for
2008-09, before any additional funds are raised, and (2) Jennifer Sequeira will be awarded the title in a belated effort
to keep her from bouncing to another institution.
(May 13, 2008 ) CoB News, 13 May 2008 Williams Professorship Launched Amidst the various retirement ceremonies
and teas honoring long-time CoB professor Alvin Williams, the current Interim Dean of the CoB, a new professorship
in Williams' name was launched with a $100,000 gift from Southern Miss alumna Beverly Dale of Los Altos,
California. Dale's gift is, according to USM officials, the beginning of the new Alvin J. Williams Endowed
Professorship in Minority Entrepreneurship, a professorship that becomes the CoB's fifth in this category.
