(September 4, 2007) Breaking News Strain of AACSB Accreditation Woes Showing HATTIESBURG – Sources tell
USMNEWS.NET that the strain of the CoB’s AACSB Accreditation woes is showing. One example of the visible
strain comes from the recent Fall 2007 CoB Faculty meeting (31-Aug-07), wherein Interim Dean Alvin Williams
gave an AACSB update of sorts. At the beginning of the update, Williams informed business faculty that the CoB
is “still accredited.” According to Williams, this proclamation seemed necessary after overhearing CoB students, in
both undergraduate and graduate classes, holding discussions about the CoB’s current accreditation troubles.

Since asked by USMNEWS.NET’s editor (on 10-Apr-07) whether or not he views CoB vitae as secret or
confidential, Interim CoB Dean Alvin Williams has remained silent on the issue. That is, until the CoB’s Fall 2007
Faculty Meeting on 31-Aug-07, wherein Williams announced that he was starting a program to develop
individualized web pages for CoB faculty that would house CoB faculty vitae.

politicization of the current journal ranking process is only the latest example of how temperatures rise when it
comes to ranking journals in the CoB. Clearly, the columnist in question has strong feelings about the process, as do
others.

Accreditation Woes Showing,” and I must say that if Alvin Williams is starting to admit problems, the accreditation
situation must be dire.

Reporters at USMNEWS.NET have just learned that Interim CoB Dean Alvin Williams has released the names of
the recipients of the 2007-08 Named Professorships in USM's College of Business. The list of Business Advisory
Council Professors includes Brigitte Burgess (Assoc Prof, FM), Charles Jordan (Prof, ACC), Fujun Lai (Assist Prof,
MIS), Beth LaFleur (Prof, MKT), Farhang Niroomand (Prof, ECO), and Talai Osmonbekov (Assist Prof, MKT).
