(August 13, 2007) 1979 A Look Back at the CoB’s AACSB Application of 30 Years Ago USMNEWS.NET has
obtained a copy of the USM College of Business Administration’s AACSB Accreditation Application of 1979. Many
current CoB faculty are comparing the organization today to the one of the Joe Greene era, and this document
allows for a serious assessment of where USM’s College of Business stands today. This installment (#5) compares
the doctoral degree sources for the 1979 CBA faculty to those for the CoB faculty of 2007-08. Table 1 below lists the
sources of the doctoral degrees held by the 1979 CBA faculty along with the U.S. News & World Report’s
America’s Best Colleges 2007 ranking for each of the institutions listed.

obtained a copy of the USM College of Business Administration’s AACSB Accreditation Application of 1979. Many
current CoB faculty are comparing the organization today to the one of the Joe Greene era, and this document
allows for a serious assessment of where USM’s College of Business stands today. This installment (#4) compares
the admissions formula used for entry into the 1979 CBA’s MBA program to the one in use by the CoB today. Back
in 1979, the following requirement was used to rule on the admission of prospective MBA students (see page 36,
1979 AACSB Application of CBA):

story entitled "Man of Troy" showed how Stanley Lewis may have been placed “out of field” during his years at
USM. Now that he has moved on to Troy University, he is positioned as an associate professor of accounting, not
MIS. This installment (#6) of 1979 examines the prevalence of “out of field” placement in the 1979 CBA to that in
the 2007-08 CoB. Table 1 below shows the number of “out of field” faculty by department, using the 2007-08
departmental structure for the CoB.
