(October 1, 2007) A College in Crisis by Duane Cobb New USM President Martha Saunders now knows what many of you
have known for some time. That is, USM's College of Business is a College in crisis. And, though some in the CoB seem
incapable of seeing it, the crisis goes well beyond the AACSB Maintenance of Accreditation process.

MANAGEMENT, CURRENT CHAIRMAN OF

(October 8, 2007) CoB Power Line A Look at Who Holds the Reigns of Power in the CoB by Duane Cobb The CoB has
devolved into such an academic banana republic of sorts that it is probably useful to take stock, from time to time, of just
who holds the most political power there. Without question political power in the CoB waxes and wanes, just as it does in
any of the typical unstable, tin pot hot spots around the globe. That's what updates are for.
(November 2, 2007) GH Chatter Word around Greene Hall is that management professor Stephen Bushardt will be elected
Chair of the College Advisory Committee. There are also multiple stories about CAC members strategically withholding
their votes for the CAC-level. This practice has become a CoB staple since the "Letter of Agreement" promotion to full
professor of management's David Duhon.
(November 8, 2007) 31st & Pearl P&T "Recusal Tactic" Diminishes Oversight Apparently no one has stopped to recognize
the fact that the P&T "recusal tactic" that we have read so much about lately only diminishes the oversight role played by
university-wide college advisory councils. The tactic is one wherein members of the CoB's College Advisory Council recuse
themselves from voting on P&T dossiers at the departmental level so that they retain the option of voting at the CAC level.
This is done because of the"one person, one vote" stipulation, though there is reportedly never any record presented at the
CAC level proving one has not already voted at the department level. The tactic, popularized since 2003, or when the Harold
Doty-Farhang Niroomand Administration of the CoB reigned supreme, is used primarily on "controversial" P&T dossiers, as
one might imagine. Management professor Stephen Bushardt, now Chair of the CoB's CAC, has employed the tactic in the
recent past. Former Associate Dean Farhang Niroomand, now a member of the CAC, is poised to do so this year (2007-08).
