(November 12, 2007) CoB Power Line A Look at Who Holds the Reigns of Power in the CoB by Duane Cobb The
CoB has devolved into such an academic banana republic of sorts that it is probably useful to take stock, from time
to time, of just who holds the most political power there. Without question political power in the CoB waxes and
wanes, just as it does in any of the typical unstable, tin pot hot spots around the globe. That's what updates are for.
(November 19, 2007) CoB News, 19 November 2007 CAC Season Opens 26-Nov-07 Sources tell USMNEWS.NET
that the week of 26-30 Nov-07 will be a big one for the College Advisory Committee. On 28-Nov-07 the CAC will
meet to vote on a number of P&T dossiers. Two days later, 30-Nov-07, the advisory report from the CAC will be
due. At that point, Interim CoB Dean Alvin Williams will have about 15 days to provide his recommendations to the
University Advisory Council. The CoB's representative on the UAC will be management professor Stephen
Bushardt, who is currently serving as Chairman of the CAC. With the EFIB's "Quick-Strike Promotion & Raise
Program," plus some additional "early P&T" controversies, this year's CAC meeting should be full of intrigue. Stay
tuned for more.
(December 24, 2007) CoB News, December 2007 CoB Turf Wars The CoB's recent Distinguished Alumnus Award
dinner, hosted for recipient Bruce Aust, was covered by Hattiesburg's society magazine, Signature. Photos from the
event appeared in Signature's December 2007 issue.
(January 28, 2008) GH Chatter Some CoB faculty have been discussing management professor Stephen Bushardt’s
latest crusade against what Bushardt is complaining is the CoB administration’s failure to follow various
procedures in the CoB’s faculty handbook, Enhancing Faculty Productivity. Imagine that – CoB administrators not
following stated policies. By “administration,” one must assume that Bushardt is being critical of “good friends”
Alvin Williams (Dean) and Joseph Peyrefitte (Associate Dean), both members of Bushardt’s own department.
Does any of this make sense? Maybe, but the “chatter” has yet to reach any consensus on it.
(February 10, 2008) And then who? Tony Henthorne, current Chair of about half of the CoB, is making it clear to
anyone who will listen that he does not want to be Chair of MKT/MGT/FM next year. He received no extra money
for this job, he claims, and did it as a favor for Interim Dean Williams (as speculated here previously). Given the
rocky year at the helm, it is no wonder he seeks the relative solitude of only Tourism Management. It is time to
enjoy the fine new suite the CoB provided for him. Before moving on to the proposed post-Henthorne year(s), let’s
recap some of the low-lights of the year for Dr. Henthorne:
