(February 21, 2008) Down and Out USMNEWS.NET’s Duane Cobb Rates the 5 Least Impressive Departures Since ‘03
With the 19-Feb-2008 departure announcements from MGT/MKT and TM Chairman, Tony Henthorne, and assistant
professor of marketing, Talai Osmonbekov, the number of CoB faculty departures since 2003 gets ever so closer to 50. As
such, now seems like as good a time as any to take stock in how badly some of those departed did in their initial moves
from the CoB. Here, I present my Top 5 for least impressive initial jumps. You may have your own, which you are free to
compare with mine.
(March 2, 2008) CoB at a Crossroads PART 4 "I Don't Have a Dog in this Fight" The CoB's new Dean will have many
obstacles to face on Day 1. One of them will be dealing with the fact that any oversight over the CoB's faculty evaluation
process was killed in December of 2006, when CoB management professors, Stephen Bushardt and David Duhon, put a
motion on the floor at the CoB's Fall 2006 faculty meeting that eliminated the traditional executive team conference that
established each faculty's rating in teaching, research and service. Under the Bushardt-Duhon plan, individual faculty
ratings are decided by department heads, without consultation with the other department heads or the Associate Dean.
(March 17, 2008) Special Report "Drop the Zero, and Get With the Hero" An Investigative Series on CoB Faculty
Credentials Management professor Stephen Bushardt will soon be departing for Spring Hill College. There, he will share
his knowledge of the "Heroes and Storytellers" program, which can be found at www.timbersnursery.com, with the Jesuit
institution's faculty. Whether or not Bushardt's program is well received at SHC, the fact remains that it has shaped the
College of Business at USM for more than a decade. (Editor's note www.timbersnursey.com no long contains an active
link.)
(May 7, 2008) 31st & Pearl, CoB - Bushardt = CoB If you've been following reports here at USMNEWS.NET then you know
by now that long-time CoB management professor, Stephen Bushardt, will be leaving USM after 30-June-08, and joining
the management faculty at Spring Hill College, a Jesuit institution located in Mobile. After about three decades in
Hattiesburg, Bushardt will be joining current Interim CoB Dean, Alvin Williams, who will soon be part of the faculty at
the University of South Alabama, on the 90-minute commute across the Mississippi-Alabama line.
