(September 19, 2009) 31st & Pearl A Great Read Thus Far For those of you who have been away from USMNEWS.net for a day or two, there's a new series launched there entitled "What the CoAL Needs to Know." Thus far only Part 1 and Part 2 in this series – which is all about the proposed move of ECO to the CoAL – have been published, but there's enough to know that some really good reading is in our present and near future. The headings alone, which are listed below, are enough to whet the appetite.
GEORGE C. CARTER, FORMER CHAIRMAN, FORMER DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS, FINANCE AND INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS

(September 25-30, 2009) Everything Has a Price George Carter Edition George Carter is infamous for several things; one of those things is saying “Everything has a price” in response to why he was acting in an unwarranted, unprofessional manner. Whether old George was giving a punitive teaching schedule, an intentionally low annual evaluation, or assigning travel money, this was one reason why he was tabbed the “Smiling Assassin”. The following items, dispensed over time, are examples of what George Carter and his boys (and girls) are now reaping from George’s, and their own, actions:
(September 29, 2009) 31st & Pearl Why Bonaparte Will Not Sue Soon-to-be former CoB assistant professor Yosef Bonaparte was reportedly fired without cause by USM at the end of the 2008-09 academic year. He is now, during the 2009-10 academic season, presumably serving out a terminal contract. To read the way George Carter, the former EFIB chairman, spoke about the saga with reporters from Inside Higher Ed, Bonaparte has what some may think of as an "open and shut case." Will he sue USM?
(November 9, 2009) 31st & Pearl Turnover Unprecedented It's next to impossible to contemplate, as the 9-Nov-09 installment of GH Chatter does, even more faculty turnover in USM's College of Business. The faculty turnover page here at USMNEWS.net was last updated in early Oct]-09. At that time it listed 72 faculty -- let's repeat that one, 72 faculty -- who have left the organization since former CoB dean Duane Harold Doty arrived on the scene back in 2003. That's a turnover rate for the ages.
(November 19, 2009) 31st & Pearl Memory Lane The old USMNEWS.net stories about the fall of economics at USM really paint the picture of just what went wrong on the 3rd floor of JGH since former EFIB chairman George Carter took control of the department reins (for the second time) back in 2005. From vote trades for course releases, to sorry stats instruction, to the ethicist-in-residence who facilitated Frank Glamser's ouster, Carter hits all the marks.
(December 10, 2009) Buffoonery Looking Back on the ECO Hiring Debacle of 2006-07 USMNEWS.net's recent reprinting of Part 1 of "Rock, Paper, Scissors --- Rock!" reminds everyone who follows USM's b-school just how disastrous the George Carter administration (2005-09) of the old EFIB department (economics, finance, international business) actually was.
