PETERSBURG A good bit has been written about USM president Martha Saunders’ use of the USM airplane to get to the 21-Dec-2010 Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl in St. Petersburg, FL. One report indicates that USM’s Airplane Operations auxiliary charged Saunders $4,080 for transporting her, Joe Bailey, Pam and Doug Rouse, Troy Johnson, and Doug Davis to St. Petersburg on 20-Dec-2010, and back to Hattiesburg on 22-Dec-2010. This particular report provides some of the incidental expenses related to having a couple of pilots – Julian Allen, also USM’s associate vice president for research, and Kenneth Price – from Airplane Operations spend three days and two nights in St. Petersburg.

As members of the USM community have come to expect, Saunders used the USM Beechcraft airplane, not commercial air travel, to journey to the Commonwealth.

Told You So” USM Plane Incidentals The recent USMNEWS.net report entitled “Keeping the Home Fires Burning” details the 15-Sept-2010 trip to Atlanta made by USM president Martha Saunders and her husband, Joe Bailey. That trip was to attend a play written and produced by a(n unnamed) USM alum. USM’s Airplane Operations auxiliary charged Saunders’ USM office $2,320 (see insert below, and linked report above) for what seemed to be a pleasure trip for Saunders and her husband.
