(March 26, 2007) Operation: Research Rewind Part 1 It’s the mid- to late-1980s in the College of Business Administration at the University of Southern Mississippi. With former Dean Joseph Greene’s retirement and subsequent replacement by Ty Black, the vision for the CBA was one filled with research and an improved regional and national image.

(August 2, 2007) 31st & Pearl FINito With the departure of Sean Salter, and with him the CoB's real estate program, the finance unit's final chapter appears be in press. What has transpired along the southern corridors of Greene Hall over the past 2 years goes to show, once again, that what takes years to build can be brought down virtually over night.

(September 4, 2007) 31st & Pearl CoB's Journal Ranking Process Politicized In last Friday's CoB faculty meeting, interim dean Alvin Williams stated that a new journal ranking was eminent and that the journal ranking committee would begin work at 8 A.M. on Tuesday, September 04, 2007. Should we, observers of the CoB chaos, expect a positive outcome from this newly-discovered dedication to journal ranking? Hardly.

(March 7, 2008) CoB No Longer a “Magnet School” Through the years, particularly those years under the direction of former Dean Tyrone Black, USM’s business school was a respectable organization that boasted at least one (and usually more) notable scholar in each academic unit.

(May 1, 2008) Those (Dotys) Whom CoB Administrators Hath Joined Together (on the Cob Payroll) Let No Man (Dissenter) Put Asunder The prevalence of spousal hires in the CoB has been a subject of interest to CoB faculty for many years. The recent departures of Stephen (FIN) and Dana Haggard (MGT), to Missouri State University, and Barry (MKT) and Laurie Babin (MKT), to Louisiana Tech University and University of Louisiana – Monroe, respectively, bring this subject back to the forefront. This report examines what remains of the CoB’s spousal duos with these two sets of departures.

(July 15, 2008 ) Special Report The Greatest Ever An Investigative Series on CoB Faculty Research Credentials A USMNEWS.net reader recently commented that the list of CoB faculty who have exited the CoB since 2003 contains the names of individuals who are arguably the best scholars to have ever represented their particular units in USM's business school. That comment inspired the idea for a new series on the greatest scholars to have graced the suites of each unit in the CoB. Interestingly, the common thread among these individuals is that they were generally brought to USM under the business school leadership of former CBA dean, Tyrone Black. And, among the ones who have left the business school for other pastures (usually greener ones), most of them departed under the leadership of either former CBA dean, William Gunther, or former CoB dean, Harold Doty (usually the latter).
