(April 6, 2011) The Farm News Briefs from Southern Miss 6-April-2011 USM Students Saying “No” to Drug Testing
Fridays A case well made – that’s what USMNEWS.net sources are calling Earvin Hopkins’ 5-April-2011 Op-Ed for
The Student Printz, calling for USM, City of Hattiesburg, and Town Gown officials to abandon their idea of
implementating a campus drug testing program on Fridays during school semesters.
(April 8, 2011) Dear usmnews.net, I have been asked by colleagues at other schools whether The Toadies cartoon
series is based on real events at the CoB. I tell them, yes. So far, they have been too polite to call me an out]and]out
liar.
(April 21, 2011) Special Report Think The Student Printz is in the Tank? A few USMNEWS.net readers have
expressed the view that USM’s student newspaper, The Student Printz, has been, thus far during 2011, in the
proverbial tank for the institution’s administration. This opinion has also been stated by some USMNEWS.net
reporters and contributors.
(April 26, 2011) Cesspool President A GUEST EDITORIAL The recent news reports and editorials here at
USMNEWS.net about the USM-related mess at the University of Texas at Tyler provides a cautionary tale for those
seeking to land a top-level administration position in higher education. UT at Tyler president Rodney Mabry hasn’t
handled the mess very well thus far, and with former USM business college dean Harold Doty at the center of it all,
that lack of managerial acumen will most likely come at great cost to the UT at Tyler community. From misdeeds by
Doty and former USM management professor Stephen Bushardt, to an anti-Doty letter circulating within the Tyler
business community, to Mabry’s misdirected swipe at rectifying the boiling situation, things at UT at Tyler have
been testy and getting worse for some time now.
