(May 24, 2007) Money, Money, Money, Money Consulting and Paid Service in USM’s College of Business This report examines the consulting and paid service that faculty in the CoB are performing, at least according their own SEDONA files (as of May 2007). As you will see below, some of the CoB’s least research-active faculty are engaging in significant amounts of consulting and paid service, all of which enhances their (in some cases bloated) USM salaries. At the bottom of each consulting/paid service bio below, we provide salary data for 2006-07 along with a projected salary for 2007-08. Enjoy.

(June 20, 2007) How Far do Tall Tales Travel? On the Trail of Roderick Posey's "More than 100" Publications Claim Regular readers of USMNEWS.NET are familiar with reports that former SAIS Director Roderick Posey claims, on the USM webpages, to have more than 100 publications on accounting topics. That claim has been the subject of reports that (1) indicate that Posey has about one-half of a handful of academic publications that can be located, and (2) indicate that Posey's claim of "more than 100" was reiterated by the BellSouth Outstanding Faculty Award presenter at the CoB's spring 2007 Awards Banquet.
(June 27, 2007) 31st & Pearl Deans & Sabbaticals The recent report that Interim Dean Alvin Williams has been awarded sabbatical leave for one part of the 2007-08 academic year questions whether or not Deans can take sabbaticals.
(July 11, 2007) 31st & Pearl Black Knew Then What We Know Now So many CBA faculty thought it completely silly that, during the Ty Black administration of the college, faculty had to submit actual copies of their scholarship at annual review time. The running joke was that it was bush league, that reputable schools don't operate in that way. Well, Black knows people, at least CoB (then CBA) people, as good as or better than most. Black knew then that co-authors would mix up the citations of their work, as we saw in last year's Sedona records for Stephen Bushardt, David Duhon and Francis Daniel. Black knew then that the accountants could appear to be shifty in reporting their accomplishments.
(August 16, 2007) Announcing the . . . Help Roderick Posey Find His Tale Contest The recent report of accounting professor Roderick Posey’s selection as the 2007-08 Morgan Distinguished Professor of Accounting continues to baffle readers of USMNEWS.NET. Numerous stories and columns have covered Posey’s own claim to have “more than 100” publications, and have demonstrated that it is false. Yet, CoB administrators and others continue to shower Posey with awards (e.g., 2007 BellSouth Outstanding Faculty Award) and honors (e.g., 2007-08 Morgan Distinguished Professorship) that are based on Posey’s so-called “more than 100” research credential.
(October 1, 2007) A College in Crisis by Duane Cobb New USM President Martha Saunders now knows what many of you have known for some time. That is, USM's College of Business is a College in crisis. And, though some in the CoB seem incapable of seeing it, the crisis goes well beyond the AACSB Maintenance of Accreditation process.
