(October 8, 2007) Special Report Memo to Martha, Part I A Look at Alvin Williams’ Role in the Mobbing of Aug-07 Reporters at usmnews.net have received a copy of a memo sent by Interim CoB Dean Alvin Williams to USM President Martha Saunders, through Interim Provost Bobby Middlebrooks, asking Saunders to terminate the employment (at USM) of USMNEWS.NET editor and accounting professor, Marc DePree. Williams’ letter is dated 21 August 2007, the same day that Saunders penned a letter to DePree advising DePree that he was being relieved of his teaching and services responsibilities to USM during the fall 2007 semester.

(December 4, 2007) Special Report Dean ME An Examination of CoB Deans’ Merit Raises over the Past 15 Years The revelation that Interim CoB Dean Alvin Williams is working on a contract that is paying him $175,000/year came as a shock to many readers of USMNEWS.NET. After more than a decade of turning down offers to lead USM’s College of Business, it seems to many now that Williams’ past decisions were all about money. Given readers’ response to reports about Williams’ current salary, USMNEWS.NET reporters have searched our archives and found data (for the past 15 years) on the merit raises that the CoB’s Deans, past and present, have “awarded themselves.” Some of the results are a bit a surprising.
(February 14, 2008) Williams' Fall '07 Proposals Fall Flat by Duane Cobb During the Fall 2007 CoB faculty meeting, Interim CoB Dean Alvin Williams told CoB faculty and staff that he (Williams) would see to it that everyone in the CoB had a personal webpage at www.usm.edu, and that each person's individual web page would house that person's vita.
(March 26, 2008) Special Report AT&T Award Stays in ACC An Investigative Series on the Use of the CoB for Personal Gain The CoB’s 2008 AT&T Outstanding Faculty Award was just recently awarded to accounting professor, Charles Jordan. Jordan’s 2008 victory follows the SAIS’, and Accounting’s, 2007 victory, when the Award went to accounting professor and former SAIS Director, Rod Posey. What’s interesting about these selections is that each of these two CoB faculty has been mired in one controversy or another over the past several months.

For those of you who have recently ventured out into GS-land, you may have noticed that Google has been working on implementing an upgrade to that engine. No group is more excited about that than USMNEWS.NET’s reporters. While we await that, there are some additional elements of research quality in the CoB to consider.
