(August 13, 2008) Special Report Lost Breadth An Investigative Series on CoB Faculty Research Credentials The recent
Special Report series on "the greatest ever" scholars in CoB history produced a mountain of new data. As in the
Labored Breadth report, USMNEWS.net decided to make good use of some of it, only this time by ranking former CoB
faculty (who departed for other universities since 2003) on the basis of the breadth of their academic research. To do
this, the number of unique A-level journals hit by each these former faculty was collected and ordered from biggest to
smallest. The results are shown below in Table 1.
(August 15, 2008) CoB Human Resources Update August, 2008 This month's issue of CoB Human Resources Update
begins with former CoB marketing faculty, Talai Osmonbekov. Osmonbekov moved from the CoB to Northern
Arizona University after the completion of the 2007-08 academic year. Before departing, he was putting together one
of the finest records from a young marketing prof in the history of USM's business school. That portfolio consists of
hits in the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science (A+), the Journal of Business Research (A), Industrial
Marketing Management (A), among others. Osmonbekov is clearly a rising star, only now he will shine over Flagstaff,
Arizona, instead of over Hattiesburg, MS.
(August 19, 2008) CoB News, 19 August 2008 CoB Welcomes Parker, Cumbie and Lay This issue of CoB News
continues our recent look at the CoB's new faculty. In this issue we take a look at Paula Diane Parker, a new faculty in
the CoB's School of Accountancy who previously taught at the University of South Alabama. She will be teaching
ACC 320 (Ele Cost Accounting) from 2:00pm until 3:15pm on Mondays and Wednesdays, and ACC 610 (Advanced
Auditing) from 10:00am until 11:50am, also on Mondays and Wednesdays. Parker has published in the Allied
Academies' Academy of Accounting & Financial Studies Journal. Various reports and/or editorials here at
USMNEWS.net have described the AA as a vanity press organization. With this on her c.v., Parker's entry into the CoB
reminds one of the old 31st & Pearl column entitled Schlockburg, MS 40907.
(August 21, 2008) CoB News, 21 August 2008 “Greeting the Newbies . . .” As President Martha Saunders blogged on
18-August-2008, USM once again welcomes a number of new faculty to campus. The photo below was posted to
Saunders’ recent blog, and it shows new CoB dean, Lance Nail, in action. Also pictured there is “CoB retread,” Dale
Lunsford, a “new” MIS faculty from High Point College in North Carolina.
(August 23, 2008) Special Report M-Score Comparisons An Investigative Series on CoB Faculty Research Credentials
The recent release of the 2009 America's Best Colleges ratings from U.S. News & World Report has the USM
community buzzing. This latest list has USM back into the third tier, a position it occupied prior to the Shelby
Thames-Harold Doty, et al. administration of the institution. This Special Report takes advantage of the recently
released USNWR ratings by scoring the quality of the moves made by former CoB faculty who departed USM for
other "national universities" since 2003. The scoring method employed here subtracts the USNWR ranking of the
destination school from USM's current ranking of 180. This difference is referred to as the "M-score" of each move.
The M-score results are shown below in Table 1.
