(October 31, 2007) CoB News, 31 October 2007 Are BAC Faculty Scholars Becoming Extinct? The number of CoB faculty who remain surprised at things that routinely happen now in the CoB is diminishing with each passing. Thus, it was likely the case that not very many of the CoB's faculty were surprised to learn from Interim CoB Associate Dean Joseph Peyrefitte's recent e-mail that not a single business student had applied for a Business Advisory Council Faculty Scholars stipend ($1,000) for spring of 2007.
(December 24, 2007) CoB News, December 2007 CoB Turf Wars The CoB's recent Distinguished Alumnus Award dinner, hosted for recipient Bruce Aust, was covered by Hattiesburg's society magazine, Signature. Photos from the event appeared in Signature's December 2007 issue.
(February 8, 2008) Breaking News CoB's LaFleur Wants "Coast Country Club" LONG BEACH – USM Provost candidate, Donald Bobbitt, got what must have seemed to him to be an unloaded question from CoB marketing professor, Beth LaFleur, during the 6-Feb-08 Open Session at USMGC. LaFleur pointed out that USM wants to be thought of as "one University" when it comes to the two campuses in Hattiesburg and Long Beach. However, LaFleur informed Bobbitt that she was of the opinion that the "one University" theme fails in several areas. As an example, she offered up what sources say was a "softball" by explaining to Bobbitt the senseless need by USM to have a uniform final exam schedule for both campuses.
(February 10, 2008) And then who? Tony Henthorne, current Chair of about half of the CoB, is making it clear to anyone who will listen that he does not want to be Chair of MKT/MGT/FM next year. He received no extra money for this job, he claims, and did it as a favor for Interim Dean Williams (as speculated here previously). Given the rocky year at the helm, it is no wonder he seeks the relative solitude of only Tourism Management. It is time to enjoy the fine new suite the CoB provided for him. Before moving on to the proposed post-Henthorne year(s), let’s recap some of the low-lights of the year for Dr. Henthorne:
(April 2, 2008) The LaFleurian Candidate? As “The 6 Degrees of Danny Arnold? Try 2!” illustrates, CoB dean candidate Danny Arnold is far from an independent candidate; Arnold sports at least 70 ties to current or former CoB faculty members. What is amazing – and, to some, the most troublesome aspect of this incredible statistic – is that Elizabeth LaFleur’s name appears in that document 11 times, indicating that LaFleur has more than just a passing relationship with Arnold.
