LANCE NAIL, DEAN
(November 20, 2009) Ruminations on CoB Administrative Changes More cuts this year. Huge cuts in the next few
years. Where is the money going to come from in the College of Business (CoB)? Staff cuts seem popular with the
current dean, but how much of that can he do, and how much will it really help? One area that needs cogitation is the
administrative structure of the CoB.
(December 14, 2009) GH Chatter CoB dean Lance Nail's absences from JAG have surely not gone unnoticed. They
are, in fact, often a hot chatter subject. When the time comes for potential future employers to call on CoBers for
evaluation of Nail, there is a good chance that his behavior will come back to bite him.
(February 1, 2010) Details I Reports to usmnews.net say that the lack of dean’s office oversight to details, especially
ones supposedly under the direction of Sonia Gaines-Littles, continue. One example is the continued problem of the
marquee by the elevator in JAG. “Finance” is still misspelled after more than half a year and frequent reminders to
Sonia.
(February 4, 2010) Details II Reports to usmnews.net say that the lack of dean’s office oversight to details continues.
Another example is the continued problem of the relatively new and expensive HVAC system. The building is
regularly hot, or it is cold; some group is always uncomfortable, unhappy, and vocal. Not that many faculty members
need a reason not to stay in his or her office, but this provides them with an excuse. “I would produce a premier “A”
publication, but it is too hot/cold.” Since some responsible person should regularly walk the JAG halls, s/he must be
aware of the climatic conditions. If that is so, s/he simply must not care. Is that the proper attitude for a leader?

dean Lance Nail's month-long focus on business ethics might want to peruse installments of the "Ethics Update"
series housed in USMNEWS.net's archives.
(March 2, 2010) GH Chatter Will CoB dean Lance Nail be leaving after this year? Chatter hits both ways on this one.
The weight of opinion though is that he will be back next year for another round in the CoB.
