University of Southern Mississippi -- Tribal Morality
(March 7, 2011) "Part 1: Gordon C. Cannon, Ombudsman, University of Southern Mississippi  Dr. Gordon C. Cannon, Ph.D., Chemistry professor at University of Southern Mississippi, has never studied the subject of plagiarism. As USM ombudsman, he investigated an allegation of plagiarism.  His method:
(March 8, 2011) "Part 2: Gordon C. Cannon, Ombudsman, University of Southern Mississippi  A question directed to Ombudsman Gordon C. Cannon, PhD, at his deposition on April 16, 2010 about his investigation of Professor DePree was, “If (someone) told you something, and it wasn't true, and you based your recommendation (in your ombudsman report) on that fact, would that change your recommendation?” Cannon responded, “I don't think it would change anything.”
(March 9, 2011) Part 3: "... Cannon’s purpose was, as he testified, to verify the allegations were made, not that the allegations were supported with any evidence much less sufficient evidence to support the allegations. Dr. Cannon didn’t care whether there was any “substantiation”. The allegations, and confirmation that the allegations were made, were enough for him...".
(March 10, 2011) Part 4: "... Professor Marc DePree, DBA, had collected independent evidence of corruption by USM administrators and some USM faculty. The response from President Saunders was not to investigate the independent evidence of corruption by USM administrators and USM faculty, but was to assign Gordon C. Cannon, Ombudsman, to investigate Professor DePree. (We’ll “de-tribalize” President Saunders later in this series.) With the choice of applying scientific principles or following the principle of inviolable sacredness of USM, Cannon chose to apply the principle that USM is inviolably sacred and beyond question or investigation..
(March 14, 2011) Part 5: "... President Martha Saunders assigned Ombudsman Gordon C. Cannon with recommending whether to terminate Professor DePree’s tenure and employment at USM. At his deposition on April 16, 2010 Cannon was asked:
(March 25, 2011) Part 7: "... What is most telling about Cannon’s irrational behavior is the deceptive language in his report.  “I feel Dr. DePree has been provided with sufficient university resources.” Sounds formal and thoughtful, when in fact it hides disgusting deception. Cannon meant: “Dr. DePree has been provided an office and a desk.”

(March 22, 2011) Part 6: "Note that Cannon does not associate 'cause' with any principle of independent evidence or sound reasoning that he supposedly follows as a practicing scientist. As USM ombudsman doing the biding of President Saunders, he’s a good tribal member and will do whatever is necessary to promote the sacredness of USM including inanity like verifying the allegations were made against Professor DePree, not that the allegations were supported with any evidence much less sufficient evidence to support the allegations. Dr. Cannon didn’t care whether there was any “substantiation”. The allegations, and confirmation that the allegations were made, were enough for him..."

(April 5, 2011) Part 8: "... If Deans Doty and Williams told Dr. Cannon the world is flat and that the earth is the center of the universe, would he believe that, too? What is the extent of Cannon’s willingness to advance corrupt behavior? How far would Cannon go to maintain his status as a member in good standing of USM tribal morality?...".
(April 25, 2011) Part 9: "... The accusation that DePree was neither AQ nor PQ and jeopardized accreditation was cause to fire DePree according to Doty, Williams, and Saunders. That the accusations were false and Cannon had in his possession independent documentation that provided sufficient evidence that the claims were false did not “trouble [Cannon] too much.”...".

(April 27, 2011) Part 10: "... Skip Hughes Joins A Tribal Mobbing And Does Whatever It Takes To Railroad Dr. DePree Regardless of Facts, Rules, Academic Freedom, Constitutional Rights.  President Martha Saunders hired Skip Hughes to be Director of USM’s School of Accountancy. She spent millions to try to terminate Professor DePree’s tenure and employment at USM and Director Hughes eagerly joined in the mobbing to try to make it so.”...".
(May 2, 2011) Part 11 "Dr. Hughes claims to be a researcher. Research strives for knowledge. Why does he act contrary to the principles of reason, evidence, and truth as a USM administrator? You can’t do justice to that question without asking why USM is an institution of low academic quality. Hughes was looking after the sacrosanct USM tribal morality...".
