(June 25, 2007) iCoB by Duane Cobb The recent report on the selection of Donna Davis and Evelyn Green to participate in USM’s new Podcast Pilot Project fits real well with usmnews.net editor’s recent open letter to former CoB Dean Harold Doty. The letter deals with aspects of the CoB’s Wall Street Journal Academic Partnership Program (WSJAPP), a program that assesses a tuition fee to provide daily copies of the WSJ to CoB students, while CoB professors receive copies for free. Like the WSJAPP, students in Davis’ and Green’s classes may now feel it necessary to acquire iPods in order to keep up in class, given Davis’ and Green’s participation in the pilot project described in that report. Of course, Davis and Green get iPods for free.

(July 10, 2007) Something from the “George, you have to be kidding file.” Dr. Carter announced a faculty search on Tuesday that is to close “at the end of the week”. Why even bother to tell the faculty? Obviously neither he nor Dean Williams are interested in faculty input.
(July 11, 2007) AACSB Update #3 Our news staff just received a copy of an e-mail from EFIB Chairman George Carter, dated 10 July 2007, that was sent to EFIB faculty and Interim CoB Dean Alvin J. Williams. The e-mail informed EFIB faculty that Williams had authorized the EFIB to search for/hire an instructor who was retain the "collateral" responsibility of directing the CoB's Center for Economics Education. According to Carter, the paperwork on the hiring was completed just before the beginning of the week 2-6 July 2007, and that he (Carter) was out all of that week attending the Western Economics Association meetings, presumably to interview candidates. Carter's e-mail also informed the EFIB of two additional points. First, economics professors William Gunther and Akbar Marvasti had "graciously" agreed to assist Carter with the search. Second, the search will be closed on 13 July 2007.
(July 11, 2007) Agents Provocateurs & the Search for Center Directors We are receiving reports indicating that the search for a new Center for Economics Education (CEE) Director may be nearing its final stage. An e-mail from EFIB Chair George Carter to EFIB faculty dated 10 July 2007 stated that economics professors William Gunther and Akbar Marvasti have joined Carter to form a search committee of sorts. The problem for other EFIB faculty, however, is that the search process is set to close on 13 July 2007.
